Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is the sixth game to be released in the franchise and the direct sequal to Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty. It was the last Metal Gear game written and directed by Hideo Kojima and concludes the sotry of Solid Snake. It was released in 2008 for the Playstation 3.



Set 5 years after the events of Metal Gear Solid 2, you control Solid Snake as and attempts track down and eliminate his brother, Liquid Snake. Set in the Middle East, Liquid plans to topple all the worlds governments using private military companys. It's the final appearance of Solid Snake, who is dying because of some unknown illness that causes accelerated aging.

Metal Gear Solid 4 features many new gameplay elements. A new third person camera view replaces the older overhead version. Players can now customise any weapon they choose. A new "pysche" meter has been added to the gameplay, whenever Snake gets stressed in battle his pysche will increase, affecting his performance in combat. Snake has a new gadget called the Mk II, a small robot that he can use for scouting, taking out foes and for communicating with his support team.

Metal Gear Solid 4 received great critical and commerical success. It scored 94 on Metacritic. So far it has sold for than 4.5 million units worldwide and was responsible for a boost in Playstation 3 sales. It is only the 4th ever game to received a perfect score from both of the big 2 gaming review sites, Gamespot and IGN. The overwhelming majority of the media felt it was a satisfying conclusion to one of the biggest and most influencial gaming franchises of all time.
